Top ten Killer Fast Bowlers of 1970s, 1980s & 1990s


1- Curtly Ambrose
A giant of the game in every sense, Curtly Ambrose played for West Indies from 1988 to 2000. He was particularly successful against leading batsmen and was the most lethal pace bowler of the era. Ambrose’s bowling method relied on pure pace and accuracy, which made him a difficult bowler to face.

2- Jeffrey Thomson
Jeffrey Thomson is known unofficially as the fastest bowler of all time, played for Australia from 1972 to 1986. With an unusual slinging action, and an aggressive approach, he was a fearsome sight to batsmen. He was capable of unleashing a very fast bouncer that would skid from only just short distance.

3- Dennis Lillee
Known as the ‘complete fast bowler of his generation’, Dennis Lillee played for Australia from 1971 to 1984. Lillee was known for his fiery temperament, ‘never-say-die’ attitude and popularity with the fans. Fearsome West Indian pace battery, Michael Holding played for West Indies from 1975 to 1987. He was nicknamed “Whispering Death” by umpires due to his quiet approach to the bowling crease. He used his height to generate large amounts of bounce and devastating pace.

5- Courtney Walsh
Courtney Walsh represented West Indies from 1984 to 2001, whose spirit was as unbreakable as his body. A physiological phenomenon, Walsh probably bowled faster for longer than any man in history. Walsh’s action was neither elegant nor orthodox, but it was lethal and hugely economical.

Imran was the one of the finest cricketer Pakistan has ever produced, who played from 1971 to 1992. He generated fearsome pace from his bowling action, equipped with a dangerous bounce. Imran’s trademark was his reverse-swinging yorker at high speed, powerful enough to kill anyone.

Deadly and dangerous Andy Roberts was West Indian cricketer, who played from 1974 to 1983. He was an intelligent cricketer with a fertile brain, plotting and planning the downfall of batsmen.
